Kabale District is a district in Western Uganda. As with most other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town', Kabale. It was originally part of the district of Kabale Kigezi, before the districts of Rukungiri, Kanungu and Kisoro were peeled off to form separate districts.

Location: Kabale District is bordered by Rukungiri District to the north, Ntungamo District to the northeast, the Republic of Rwanda to the east and south, Kisoro District to the west and Kanungu District to the northwest. The town of Kabale, where the district headquarters are located, lies approximately 420 kilometres (260 mi), by road, southwest of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. A road trip from Kampala usually takes 7 to 8 hours by private car and approximately 2 to 3 hours longer by public transportation. The coordinates of the district are:01 15S, 30 00E. The land is heavily fragmented. An average household has six to seven plots of land on several hills. The people are predominantly from the Bakiga tribe, but also from Batwa (Pygmies), the Banyarwanda and the Bahororo (Toro) tribal clans.

Kanungu District is a district in the Western Region of Uganda. The town of Kanungu is the site of the district headquarters.Kanungu District was created by the sixth Parliament of Uganda in July 2001.

The district is composed of one county with the twelve sub-counties of Kihihi, Kambuga, Nyamirama, Rugyeyo, Rutenga, Kayonza, Mpungu, Kinaaba, Katetete, Nyakinoni, Nyanga, and Kanyantorogo, and the four town ouncils of Kanungu, Kihihi, Butogota, and Kambuga. The district is served by one district hospital, Kambuga Hospital located in the Kambuga Town Council. The Bwindi Community Hospital, operated by a non-governmental organization, is located at the outskirts of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Kisoro District is a district in the Western Region of Uganda. The town of Kisoro is the site of the district headquarters.

Kisoro District is bordered by Kanungu District to the north, Kabale District to the east, the Rwanda to the south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the west. The town of Kisoro is approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi), by road, west of Kabale, the largest town in the sub-region.The coordinates of the district are 01 17S, 29 41E. The district is inhabited by primarily by the Bafumbira, composed of the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa tribes. The Rufumbira dialect, which is similar to Kinyarwanda, is spoken in the district. A section of the district is inhabited by the Kiga people whose dialect is intermediate between Kiga and rumbira.

Rukungiri District is a district in the Western Region of Uganda. The town of Rukungiri is the site of the district headquarters.

The district is bordered by Rubirizi District to the north, Mitooma District to the east, Ntungamo District to the southeast, Kabale District to the south, Kanungu District to the west, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the northwest. The district headquarters are approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi), by road, south-west of Kampala, Uganda's capital city. Prominent people The district is the birthplace of Kizza Besigye, who was a candidate for the Ugandan presidency in 2001, 2006, and 2011. Other prominent Ugandans who hail from the district include Aronda Nyakairima, the minister of internal affairs, and Henry Tumukunde, a former director of Uganda's Internal Security Organisation. One of the parliamentary representatives of this district is Jim Muhwezi

The Bakiga inhabit Kabale and part of Rukungiri districts. They occupy the counties of Ndorwa, Rubanda, Rukiga in Kabale and parts of Kinkizi and Rubando counties in Rukungiri districts. Due to overpopulation, the Bakiga have been migrating to other parts of Uganda especially t Kabarole, Rukungiri, Kasese, Hoima, Masindi and Mubende districts; and Rwampara, Ruhuma and Ibanda counties of Mbarara district. They have also settled in Masaka and Rakai districts.
